Title:                          Volunteer Coordinator/Receptionist
Reports to:               Executive Director
Hours:                        Part time – 21 hours/week
Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for the recruitment, screening, selection, training, motivation and evaluation of volunteers. A key component of this position is the promotion of volunteering opportunities to the public, and maintaining a positive image of the organization within the community. Other responsibilities will include the development and maintenance of policies and systems to ensure effective volunteer management, as well as the supervision of volunteers; troubleshoot; adjust schedules in the event of no-shows, illness, etc. and ensuring that Volunteers have the resources needed to fulfill their duties.
Responsibilities include:

Recruitment, screening, selection, training, scheduling, motivation, evaluation of volunteers and plans the yearly volunteer appreciation event.
Promote opportunities of volunteering to the public.
Designing and conducting training and orientation programs for volunteers.
Works closely with Counsellor, Program Coordinator, and Client services Coordinator.
Maintains a variety of statistical records, update database, record keeping and creates the volunteer newsletters.
Act as a primary staff resource for volunteers and responds to volunteer requests
Develop and maintain policies and systems for effective volunteer management.
Regular participation in staff meetings to share ideas and suggestions.
Assists with fundraisers and events and may be required to work occasional evenings, weekends, and to cover staff vacation leave.
Performs front desk reception duties including answering phones, taking detailed messages and assisting walk-in clients in a compassionate and sensitive manner.
Other duties as assigned. 

Education & Experience:

Post-secondary degree in a related field would be an asset.
Completion of a recognized Hospice Volunteer education program
Courses in Adult Education an asset.
Minimum of two years of related experience in a volunteer capacity.
Strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
Ability to supervise, train, organize and prioritize volunteers with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
Political, cultural, ethnic backgrounds and lifestyle sensitivity
Must provide a clean security clearance and current drivers licence 
Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
