Individual and Family Counselling
Counselling offers a confidential and supportive way for people to sort through their thoughts, feelings, and experiences as they move through their illness or deal with a death. Counselling is offered on a one-to-one basis and with families. Group counselling may be available if numbers support it.
Following an initial assessment, an in-home, or facility client support volunteer may be offered. The volunteers are carefully screened and trained to be able to support our clients and families in a comforting and confidential manner.

Reiki and Healing Touch
Our volunteers with specialized training in Healing Touch/Reiki and gentle massage offer palliative clients, caregivers, or those going through cancer therapy a 45 minute treatment on Fridays at the Hospice Centre for Palliative and Grief Support in Qualicum Beach by appointment. This may also be provided in care facilities or in the clients’ home.
Hospice Lending Library
An extensive and up-to-date selection of books and DVDs dealing with end-of-life issues, caregiving, grief, and loss are available on loan from the Hospice Support Centre. For more information, please click here.
Sharing My Story – Recording your personal life history
Trained Hospice volunteers interview palliative clients being served by Oceanside Hospice Society in their homes, in hospital, or care facilities. This program is designed to give individuals the opportunity to share their personal stories with their families and loved ones. The story is recorded and transferred to a CD that can be listened to.
Volunteers are available to sit at the bedside of individuals in long-term care facilities during their last days/hours as requested by the family.
